A career is a commitment, just like a relationship. In a relationship, you work towards building something beyond yourself by investing into it. The same goes for you career. You want to know that by going to work each day, you are contributing to the greater good and making a difference in peoples lives.
Relationships can’t be one-sided. If this is the case, they tend to either not last very long or be very health. A career you love should be a two way street. Generally, you only get out what you put in. If you want to be recognized at work, you need to put in the effort and go the extra mile. You want to move up in a position, ask to take on more responsibility. Not only are you helping your employer, you are showing them you can be trusted with more.

Just like any healthy relationship, you can’t take yourself to seriously. The same can go for your job. It’s important to show up, be there and give 100%.
